Why do we invest?
The sky didn’t just leak; it opened up.
As we approached the mall for my daughter’s gymnastics class, a light afternoon turned into a torrential downpour. We stood at the edge of the road, staring at the open, unsheltered gap between us and the entrance. This wasn't a drizzle. It was the kind of rain that made people with umbrellas retreat deeper into the shelter of the storefronts.
She looked up at me, her eyes wide. "What should we do?"
"We wait," I said, watching the gutters turn into rivers.
But the clock was ticking. Two minutes until class. The rain showed no signs of relenting; if anything, the clouds seemed to be doubling down. I looked at her. She wasn't just waiting for a dry path. She was waiting for a miracle.
I felt a spark of mischief. "You’ve always wanted to run in the rain, right? Today’s the day. Let’s do it!"
Her face lit up. I gripped her hand tight. "Hold on and don’t let go!"
We plunged into the deluge. To the shock of the huddled bystanders, we became two blurring streaks against the grey curtain of water. I expected her to be frightened or cold, but instead, I heard a pure, high pitched laugh. "This is so fun!" she squealed, her voice cutting through the roar of the storm.
By the time we reached the doors, I was a walking pond. She was only halfway soaked, shielded mostly by the spare sweater I’d wrapped around her. I did a quick "emergency dry" with a handful of napkins and ushered her into the studio. She didn't just walk into class; she floated. She was grinning from ear to ear, already telling her friends about the “great adventure”.

Lessons from a Rainstorm
An umbrella would have been more practical, but it would have made the day forgettable. This "mishap" didn't ruin our afternoon. It became a core memory. We didn't just go to gymnastics; s
I’ve realized that overpreparing can sometimes act as a barrier to joy. While safety matters, leaving room for a little impromptu chaos can turn a routine Tuesday into a lifelong story.
(…Ah choo!)
And this is why I invest, so that I can be financially free and have the time to send my girl to her classes again (hopefully with a bit of rain)
